About This Blog

How Did They Know is a blog dedicated to the true fashionistas out there who finally deserve credit for their individuality and courage to wear whatever they want, regardless of what is "in style". The characters who I'm scouting out for the success of this

site are those individuals who just keep pushing through with originality in this homogenized society. They are the souls that truly understand the meaning of reinterpreting looks through, sometimes, using typical or standard wardrobe pieces. Or, they are just those who can possess an inspiring look, without even being aware of it. They tend to think ambiguously of style. I do not want to exploit these people in any way. The purpose of this blog is to celebrate their integrity, eccentricity, beauty and idiosyncrasies.

How Did They Know, aka, HDTK, is a harder, grittier and more organic version of some of the other trend forecasting sites. I must, however, give props to The Satorialist for giving me the courage to even begin a fashion blog just by snapping some photos of people on the streets of New York.

While I feel that the Sartorialist is a site that captures a range of people on the pulse of fashion, keep in mind that it looks as though a majority of these photos are taken of people outside of a fashion show...Who wouldn't be pulled together!? Many sites should be renamed We Know, We know. I feel like the majority of fashion websites/blogs romanticize trends and state the obvious. They completely forget that incredible personal style doesn't go down a runway or is sold at mid-priced SoHo boutiques but, in fact, includes random people who can't afford these mass produced "luxury" items. In essence, a dress featured on a platform of the 6 train at Bleeker Street isn't a way of life for everyone. HDTK will not be that.
